Hair today, gone tomorrow

Toby here. I've been having serious problems with my fur. I don't groom it as well as I should so it gets all matted and knotted. My beans say it's because I'm too fat. Hmmph! Who are they to make such claims? Everyone eats 17 meals a day.

Well, the beans say they're trying to help when they pull at my fur with a tugging, pulling metal thing they call the hooky brush. I don't care for this at all. I refuse to sit still and, when they get too familiar, I give them a swat or a bite. This makes the beans mad but they usually go away.

Lately, I've heard them talking about the vet... and me! I don't care for the vet. From what I gather, the beans have made an appointment for me for later in May. They say I'm going to be "shaved" ... but I don't know what this means. They point at me and laugh and say, "Everything goes but the fur on the head and the tip of the tail."

I don't like being laughed at. Nor do I like the sound of this "shaving."
Already, the evil cat carrier has been taken out and placed where I can see it.

Should I be worried?

Yes, you should be worried, if the humans are planning to shave all your fur off. To prevent this from happening, you should (dare I say this) cooperate with them on the brushing. Anyways it feels so good and I love it, all except the belly fluff. I take care of that myself, but my personal grooming staff takes care of the restof my furs. As for the crate, we all sleep in them and the wait for an empty spot can sometimes be long.

Welcome to the feline blogosphere, you two!

I don't like being brushed either, Toby, but then my fur is not like yours. This nonsense about being shaved sounds very personal. Did your human pets ask for your permission? You would think they would considering that's a serious invasion of personal space!

Uh oh...Toby the shaving thing doesn't sound like a fun activity. But, it will make you cooler in the summer.

*ABBY( a short haired girl and happy about it!) :-)

Hi Toby and Tilly, nice to find another kitty blog. My name is Fat Eric, I am a British blogging kitty, please come and visit my blog some time. I also run a group called the Gorgeous Gingers, and Tilly looks to me like a great candidate for membership. You can find the link on my blog if you are interested. Long-haired cats like us are the best, I do not like the idea of this "shaving" business. Grooming is not so bad, Toby, I love being combed and lie there and purrrrrr. I am 21lb by the way so I am bigger than you!

Hello Toby, Tilly. I'm Bonnie, The Attack Tabby. 6 months ago, my home was invaded by young Victor, and I'm NOT happy. Toby, you should join my club, Attack of the Tabbies. Can't help with the hair thing; mine's short, I hate being brushed, an hairballs are my specialty.

i agree with Petey. you should let them groom you to avoid the shaving. i mean, you're not a POODLE, you're a POODIN!

Welcome to the blogging world of cats!

Shaving fur is undignified.

Brushing is wonderful! It massages the skin and feels all tingly. I highly recommend brushies! Or try the love glove. They just run this glove over your hair like a rubbie!

Brushing everyday is purrfect. It helps your beans to relax and you feel all tingly and lovey afterwards!

Hi Toby and Tilly! Welcome to the cat blogosphere. I putted a welcome on the Cat Blogosphere blog too! I hope effurybody comes by and says hi.

I dunno bout the brushing thing, but it doesn't sound as skeery as the shavin thing. I'd go for the brushin if I were you, Toby.

I'm a big fellow too, 18 pounds and I have to diet because I can't clean all the parts that need it either. I get tangles but mom uses a fine tooth "flea comb" on me to slowly work out the tangles. No i hardly get any and when they start to form, she can get them out right away. And daily brushing is the best! We hope you don't have to get shaved. How humiliating for a cat. We have our pride. And shame on them if they laugh. -shaggy
